Sunflower County Freedom Project
The Sunflower County Freedom Project (SCFP) is proud to present its annual student play, The Parchman Hour: Songs and Stories of the 1961 Freedom Riders. Throughout February, the SCFP will perform this one-hour play through Sunflower County to celebrate Black History Month.
Written by historian and playwright Mike Wiley, The Parchman Hour celebrates the courage and conviction of the Freedom Riders, young men and women who worked to desegregate interstate travel in the 1960's. The play contains stories and songs of the riders ans is appropriate for all ages. Following the performances students actors will lead an open conversation addressing the themes of play and the state of the current movement for civil rights.
The first performance will be on Saturday, February 18th at the BB King Museum in Indianola. The performance will begin at 1pm. All performances are free and open to the public. For more information on the SCFP and the Black History Month performances, please contact Kate Gluckman at 662-569-2441
