The Mississippi Humanities Council has been awarded a $4,000 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission. This grant will be used to employ storytellers for the Council's family literacy project programs which are held at various locales across the state each year..

(JACKSON) — Grants awarded by the Commission tprovide funding for the staging of festivals, theater performances and other arts-related activities. With these funds, the organizations tell the unique story of their community and reinforce the value of building a creative economy.

The Mississippi Humanities Council sponsors, supports and conducts a wide range of programs designed to promote understanding of our cultural heritage, interpret our own experience, foster critical thinking, encourage public discourse, strengthen our sense of community and thus empower us with a vision for the future. Books and reading are among the primary focuses of the organization.
